The Nine-Column Ranking Report Clients Actually Read

A downloadable keyword ranking report template with nine defined columns, a filled example, and guidance on sourcing each field from GSC or a rank tracker.
Most ranking reports fail the same way: too many columns, inconsistent date ranges, and no record of what changed. A useful report is nine columns, sorted by position change, compared against a consistent prior period. This template is the structure we use for client work, with a downloadable CSV you can drop into Sheets or Excel.
Download the CSV template, then use the column reference and filled example below to populate it from your rank tracker and Search Console.
A keyword ranking report needs exactly nine columns. Everything else — device splits, SERP screenshots, share of voice — belongs in an appendix, not the weekly table. The template below is the version we use for client reporting; the example rows are illustrative.

How to Fill It
Position and Previous come from your rank tracker; if you only have Google Search Console, use the query's average position for the period and note the source. Impressions and Clicks come straight from GSC's Performance report filtered to the same date range. Keep the period consistent — a weekly report compares to last week, a monthly one to last month, never a mix. Sort by Change before you present: the wins and losses at the top are the report.
Cadence: weekly for active campaigns, monthly for maintenance clients. Archive each report as its own tab or file so the history stays auditable instead of being overwritten.
